Long time no see…

Due to family sickness I haven’t been able to blog… But it did not stop me from reading! I have been reading alot. I planned on write about them, but I guess that would have been a very loooooong blog, and pretty boring reading. Instead I took a picture of the books and sorted them in two colums. The one to the left are books I in diffrent ways found boring, very partial, or even not worth reading… The books in the right column gave me “something” . Since I spent most of the summer in Sweden the books/titles are mostly translated into Swedish,  sorry about that!!!

PS: Lots of the books I’ve read did not even make it back to Norway with me…

booklist
Summer books

Here are some of the authors:

William Marsden – Hells Angels. The story. A scary story on how bad the goverments around the world handles crimeinvestigations, a few men putting their life on the line for the democracy and law and order, but also a story about blood brothers that stand up for eachother, all depending on your own standings.

Richard Branson . Mr Virgin himself likes himself. But I like the way he does it!

Barack Obama – Interesting family history about the most powerfull man in the world, but I guess beeing an American could help…

Anna Politknowskaja – A very political book the focus on the negative things about Putin. I expected it to be a bit more about Putin, the goverment, etc, but this is more about how he has made his political triumph by stepping on ppl. Scary story, but still, I had exprected a more colorful description of HIM.

Tom Clancy

Stephenie Meyer – Vampires

Mats-Eric Nilsson – Sweden’s food police

M.B & Richard Leigh – About the way scientists hide results, sells it to highest bidders and sometimes hide the truth to the world to save us from ourself.

Mons Kallentoft – Swedish crime

Roslund & Hellström – Sweden’s most winning crime novel authors at the moment

Peter Robinson – liked it. Good crime novel

Nikki Sixx – I love Rock N’ Roll…

Better late then never…

I got a book tip from my father the other day, but since he had borrowed it at the library I went online and bought it. Mostly the book my father like, I like aswell! :) This time it was an old favorite author of mine, Ken Follett. Why I had never heard of the book before was the fact that Ken Follett usually writes crime novels and this one was a historic/religious/building fiction book. It is named: World Without End It’s acctually rather old now. Book nr 2 came at 2007, it was translated to Swedish in 2009 though.

When I recieved it, I almost died. I bought it translated into Swedish, and I am happy I did. It is big like a STONE! In Swedish it is 1204 pages and the textsize is SMALL. -25 or something hehe. It is two books acctually,World Without End is book nr 2. The first one is The Pillars of the Earth. I liked book nr 2 much more. I am not sure why. Anyway, both books are worth reading, even though they are THICK! :)

inmortality

Yes, I admit. I have read it, and I couldn’t stop! The Twilight (Twilight Saga) is fascinating with it’s true love, inmortality, the fight between good and bad, but not the least, vampires!

I didn’t think I’ld like it, but I did. I even watched the two first movies with the excuse of my oldest daughter. ;) The story about Edward and Bella is a true romance novell, but makes you think. It adds jealousy, love, hate, and relates to diffrences between people with a history to carry from their family background. Highly topical today!

I also managed to finish the The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star by Nikki Sixx! Makes you happy, you have your life and not his! A dark book that I wanted to read to learn about glammy LA lifes…

I guess todays word of wisedom will be: Money doesn’t mean a shit when you are not happy (with yourself)!

Holiday reading or sex, drugs and rock’n roll

Happy Holidays! For me the holiday started with stumic flu. Not exactly the start I wanted, but since I got well just in time for Christmas Eve, I guess it wasn’t that bad.  My mom though, she got it for Christmas eve and spent the day in the bathoom. She calls my youngest for the poison snake… hehe Since my parents joined us for the holiday I got some spare time and spent it by reading (as usually). :) I am really not into mainstream books this season, it should be, let me call it “fascinating stories”… I bought a few new books just in case I got some spare time for Christmas and I managed to read 2 books. The first one is by a Swedish Author named Fredrik Hären and it is called (free translated by me) “Be a winner in the Global World” or orginally in Swedish “Bli en vinnare i den globala världen”. The author has been translated before, but only his The Idea Book: 1. The book made me think! Not something I planned on doing on the holiday but the book inspired me alot. Especially his formula: Idea = P (K+I) which stands for P=Person, K=Knowledge and I=Information. Read it! :)

As a pure pleasure, I also read: Slash: The Autobiography. I love Gun’s & Roses! The book (a biography) has a fascinating story, and it acctually takes you deeper into the life of a rockstar then you migh want to… It makes me happy I never went to Hollywood! hehe For you that doesn’t like sex, more sex, alcohol and rock’n roll, it’s not a book for you! ;)

christmas shopping

This year I have fished most of the christmasgift shopping really early! :) woohoo! I only have a few left and a few days ago I looked around to find a site that would give me a good price on Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 or 8… I happily noticed that Amazon UK had it at 33£! Such a bargin, I decided to order it right away! But when I should pay, Amazon told me I could not buy the item when it should be shipped to Norway…

Many probably would have payed twice as much (it’s 99£ at the cheapest I found)  at a Swedish or Norwegian online shop instead, but not me. Oh no. I decided to ask my friends in England if I could ship it there (since UK has a freeshipping offer right now, it would not have been an expensive solution to my problem) but of course, I couldn’t find anyone that was online or home enough to have time to ship it to me before Christmas… Set back nr 2. But I DO NOT give up that easily. There were still other options.! Just as I tried to find another online store that acctually didn’t care about EU regulations (no business IT systems should be shipped to other countries) the wireless network crashed… With 3 mayor set backs in one day I turned of the damn computer and decided to buy another thing that:

  1. EU did not care about (which is hard since they seem to care even about the smallest things like the size of a strawberry etc…)
  2. The price where appealing for a poor home mom
  3. Did not require IT systems
  4. I could use aswell ;)

I’m still thinking. 7 days later. And now I even have to use my boyfriends computer to buy his own gift…

If anyone have a good site that DO send Adobe Photoshop Elements to Norway, at a good price, send me a comment with the link!!! I’ld appriciate it!

Ghostbusters….

I guess I will have to cut back on those crime novels… Me and my baby daughter went to bed early yesterday. When she woke up at midnight I went to make her a teat. At first everything seemed normal but after a while I heard a nocking. I didn’t expect anyone so I tried to ignore the knocking… But after a while I looked out the window and there where nobody out there.  I went back to bed and tried to sleep but the knocking continued… It really started to scared me out of my wits so at 00.15am I runned upstairs, where my boyfriend where, and he had to come down and listen. He also heard the noise, but he had not read scary crimenovels so he went to sleep… After a looooong sleepless night, tired as h*** I went to the store to buy breakfast. Outside hang a new set of christmas santaclause that my mom had hang up! The wind made them knock on the door.

Well I can recommend the book for pepole that are not that easy to scare as myself! hehe Unfortunaltey the book doesn’t seems to have been translated into english, but this one is good aswell;
The Glass Devil

I hope I will sleep better tonight!

Books don’t hurt ya

Today was my daughters 8:th birthday! She wanted alot of things (as most 8 years old do) but most of all she wanted the Guinness World Records 2010 book. When she opened the package, she went all excited, and her eyes sparkled like the stars! :) She loves to read (wonder where she got that from) so she also got How My Body Works : Digestion (An Orbis Play and Learn Collection) by Albert Barille. An educating book that also has been showed on television. Tomorrow, she will bring her new books with her to school! Lately her teacher has been asking her to bring books with her to school since she seems to have alot of good educational books, and that makes my daughter even more eager to buy and read books! :)

Well time to read for my little ones! :) I bet my oldest want me to read her new books, and, MOM can’t wait! ;)

PS: She also got her ear pierced, but the books “did not hurt” ;) So much for allowing her to do something she has been whining about for 3 year…

Thanksgiving

This weekend has a busy schedule! Thanksgiving(for me means lots of nice greetings from my American friends that needs to be answered and enjoyed), Christmas shopping with mom and Christmas celebration with my work this weekend. I guess I will not have so much spare time to read…

Last book I read was by a Swedish author named Helene Tursten which I had not heard of before.  Found out now that she writes detective novels with good nerve and descriptive surroundings. I liked the book, The Torso, a lot and I will definatley try another one from her! Surprisingly, I got the book from my aunt that doesn’t like detective novels at all… She must have bought it by mistake! Good news for me!  ;)

I got to go and eat a little bit more food now… For all you American out there, Happy Thanksgiving!

Misc.

Today I visited a friend that like me has a baby girl. Turned out the babies loved the same baby books! I don’t think the books have been published in English but here is the Norwegian company which I strongly recommend! Both my girls love the books and they are very informative and educational.  NOR Goboken / SWE Goboken (Updated after comment: There are a few of the books availible in english: I Love You Baby (Usborne Snuggletime),Angel Baby and Where Is Baby’s Belly Button?)

Yesterday I ordered 6 new books… Woohoo! :)  Hmm maybe I shouldn’t have said that, I guess I forgot to inform my boyfriend about that… ;) 3 of them are available in English and 3 of them are by Swedish authors and has not been translated (to my knowledge).  I can’t wait to receive them! Here they are:
In Sicily by Lewis Norman, Slash: The Autobiography by Slash and The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star by Nikki Sixx. Rock on! :)

The other three books were these (link to adlibris.se):

Gud som haver barnen kär har du någon ull by Mark Levengood, Dubbla slag by Malin Persson Giolito and Bli en vinnare i den globala världen : Vad som händer i världen och varför by Fredrik Härén.

I will of course get back on those books as soon as I have read them! :)

Maffia

Some days, there is just not time enough to all the things you plan to do. Yesterday was such a day. I wanted to do lots of things but all I manage to do were to go to IKEA and spend lots of money. Well, I guess I am not the only one doing that…

Talking about IKEA makes my mind towards Maffia books. You might find that a long shot, but I growed up in Gothenburg and with the IKEA robbery… LOTS of Maffia books in different shapes out there… I have a few favorite books, both documentary and fiction here they are: Svensk Maffia by Lasse Wierup and Matti Larsson, unfortunately it is not available in English, yet. One of those books you just can’t put to side until you had finished it! Cosa Nostra: A History of the Sicilian Mafia by John Dickie is another good book.

Even though reality sometimes is worse then fiction, this book fascinated me: The Increment by Chris Ryan. Well, I am not sure you would call this a mafia book, but for me, sometimes an organization could act like one.

Well, if you don’t like to read you could always watch the The Godfather movies!
